It can be argued that the words icon and legend are overused these days. But they are an appropriate way to describe Tony Bennett, who died on Friday in his home city of New York just short of his 97th birthday. This gifted vocalist first recorded, under a different name, all the way back in 1949, and he released his most recent album of new material in the 2020s. He broke numerous Guinness world records and received many awards and accolades.

What can I say? The show today is full of all sorts of songs with memories. Songs that tell stories, songs about food, and, I think, a song that our own Sarah Hillis may have been involved with if I remember right. Melissa will be back next week, but I hope you all enjoy what I've come up with. I think there's some great stuff here, and a lot that should have been there that just wouldn't fit. Enjoy the show!

This week, the "Juke In The Back" is loaded with nothing but the great recordings of Big Joe Turner, the "Boss Of The Blues."
Part one covers Joe Turner's early years from his Kansas City beginnings to his big breakthrough in NYC at the first "From Spirituals To Swing" show in 1938 to just before he signed to Atlantic Records in 1951.
