The "Juke In The Back" focuses on the " soul that came before rock n' roll," the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.
Matt The Cat presents another highly underrated R&B vocal group from the 1950s: The Du-Droppers. They didn't sound like the stereotypical "doo wop" groups of the era and they weren't your standard rhythm group either. The Du-Droppers had a sound that was all their own.
Currently in our rockumentary slot, we're running a series a documentaries about offshore pirate radio, and it's proving popular with listeners. We're so glad you're enjoying it.
This weekend, having completed our look at Radio London, we begin the Radio England story. Backed by some of the Texans who originally invested in Radio London, many of the existing operators were concerned about what Radio England and Britain Radio's arrival would mean in 1966. While giving some British broadcasters their first opportunity, it failed to challenge the major stations on the air.
This week on Deep Dive we hear from the king, Elvis Presley. We visit the Ghetto, experience the wonder of you, and stay at the heartbreak hotel.
Tune in on Monday at 4 PM Eastern, which is 6 Am Tuesday in Eastern Australia. Or at 6 AM Eastern Wednesday, which is 8 PM in Eastern Australia. Lean in close to that Smart Speaker of yours and whisper in its digital ear play Mushroom FM, and the result will be the glorious sounds of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Hello! Sara hillis here once again, letting you know that I'm back this week with another antic edition of Come by the Hills, the Folk and Celtic Music Show! I think it's safe to say that our collection of music this week is ecclectic, to say the least. We've got songs about rivers, a couple of Mulls (yes, including a certain Mull we all know and love here at Mushroom FM,) a few songs about kings, some songs about maids, and to even things out, a few songs about men.
After you've enjoyed Come By The Hills with Sara Hillis, now in its 8th year on Mushroom FM, tomorrow afternoon from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM, don't touch that dial, device, PC, Mac, smart speaker or tablet and join me for The Early Years where and when you'll hear the best music from the first half of the Rock and Roll era with nods to other decades and genres.
My month of encore presentations from this time in 2022 continues this week.

The Five Keys were undoubtedly one of the finest vocal groups of both the R&B and Rock n' Roll eras. They didn't score as many hits as say the Dominoes or the Clovers, but like The Orioles and The Ravens before them, they were highly influential to other vocal groups of the day.
We’ve had a terrific response to the Radio London story, which we’ve been running for the last four weeks as part of our series on offshore radio.
In this weekend’s rockumentary slot, we’ll bring you a programme referenced in the final part of that documentary. It’s called “their final hour” and was the last thing to be broadcast on Radio London on 14 August 1967 before they closed down due to the Marine offenses Act coming into force at midnight.
This week on Deep Dive, through an encore show, we enjoy the outstanding talents of American singer Carole King. We learn that you've got a friend, where you lead I will fall, and that it's too late.
Tune in at 4 PM Eastern Monday, which is 6 AM Tuesday in Eastern Australia. Or at 6 AM Eastern Wednesday, which is 8 PM in Eastern Australia. Just turn to that SmartSpeaker of yours and ask it nicely to play Mushroom FM and you will be there in a New York minute.
Yes, I'm still very much alive, and have been bringing The Song Remembers When to all of you for the past few weeks. What I have not been doing, obviously, is creating blog entries for these past shows. I have no excuse, really, aside from the fact it has been a very busy summer in the Riccobono house, and, unfortunately, we're already beginning to prepare for the first day of school! But, I made time this evening to write to say the topic for The Song Remembers When this week is relationships. I was thinking of doing a show only about break ups, but that seemed a little boring.
