After you've enjoyed The Variety Vault with Paul Merrell, Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4 PM, don't touch that dial, device, PC, Mac, smart speaker or tablet and join me for The Early Years, where and when you'll hear the best music from the first quarter century of Rock with occasional nods to other decades and genres.
Longtime listeners to The Early Years know how much I enjoy doing year-end charts. In almost ten years, I've done Billboard charts from 1949, 1958-65 and 1970-71. Four weeks ago, I began the latest year-end countdown I've yet done and it isn't from Billboard. It's from the local radio station that I grew up listening to from a very young age, CKWS here in Kingston, the top 96 of 1975. It's a top 96 rather than a top 100 because of CKWS's AM frequency, 960. It was common for radio stations to tie their charts to their frequency and their call letters.
This countdown will take five shows because of the lengths of many of the songs and because I'm including information from Canadian national charts as the countdown is from a Canadian station; and this week will conclude the countdown as I get from #16 to #1. After that, I'll play two better known international versions of songs that were on the chart by Canadians and a song from 1975 that didn't chart anywhere.
You can contact me any time by email at steve at mushroomfm.com with comments about the show and suggestions for future shows.
So join me, Steve Cutway, as I conclude the countdown of the top 96 of 1975 including some radio jingles from CKWS, one of the two local stations I grew up listening to, Wednesday afternoon at 4 PM, where and when I will make musical and magical memories, after The Variety Vault with Paul Merrell, and before Story Untold with PJ Noce. Then stay tuned for The Mosen explosion. The Early Years will replay Friday morning at 7 AM, after Decades in HD with PJ Noce and before The Mosen explosion, only on Mushroom FM, the home of the fun guys, making four decades of magic mushroom memories.
