On Friday, February 27, 2026, popular music lost one of its most extraordinary figures. Neil Sedaka, Brooklyn-born piano prodigy, Brill Building architect, comeback king, and one of the most gifted melodists the American songbook has ever produced, died at age 86 in Los Angeles. This Monday on The Mosen Explosion, I am dedicating the full two hours to the man, the music, and the remarkable story behind both.
Tune in this Monday at 9 AM Eastern, repeated at 9 PM Eastern. Not sure when that is where you are? Head to the Mushroom FM schedule page to find your local time.
Neil Sedaka's story is one that Hollywood could scarcely have invented. A scholarship student at the Juilliard School's preparatory division from the age of eight, personally selected by Arthur Rubinstein as one of New York's finest teenage pianists, he abandoned a promising classical concert career for rock and roll, and changed popular music forever.
This tribute will take you on the full journey.
Neil Sedaka once said: "It's still very gratifying to hear my music played on the radio — the songs will outlive me." He was right.
Join me this Monday on The Mosen Explosion for a loving, comprehensive tribute to a man who proved that great songwriting is forever.
