Kia ora Mosen At Largers.
It’s another bumper edition of Mosen at Large to keep you informed, make you think, and even provide a bit of entertainment too. As always, you are very welcome to help make it a great show through sending in a contribution.
There’s plenty on the show this weekend and here are just a few of the things we’ll cover.
Australia signed into law its new code involving big tech and big media. There’s more listener feedback on this and some further comments from me in one of the most significant threats to an open Internet we have ever faced.
We’re seeking your advice on whether a cost-effective but accurate scanning solution exists for Windows these days? What are people using and how well is it working for them?
There’s plenty of comments about various aspects of the iPhone as always, but Android users aren’t going to be left out. Our feature this week is the Louie Voice Control app for Android. We’ll talk to the creator of the app, who is blind himself, about why he created it and what value he thinks it adds in the busy voice control market. Spoiler alert, I’ve seen nothing quite like this on any platform. As you know if you listen to Mosen At Large regularly, my daughter Heidi joins me for some of our big iPhone discussions. My son Richard is the odd man out in the Mosen family, he’s the only one using Android, so he joins me to help me with my review and demo of Louie Voice Control.
Following thousands of downloads of our Clubhouse walkthrough, I’ve sent out many Clubhouse invitations and the number of blind people on the platform is increasing. We have more listener comments on Clubhouse this week and if you’ve given it a try, do let us know what you think of it and whether you expect to stick with it.
Last week, Andy left us a message about the Cube Slate, which I hadn’t heard of before. Some of our US listeners have though, and they share their memories of this device as well as the Cramner Abacus and other maths gear they have used over the years. Reminiscing is always fun, so do feel free to chime in with your memories of old maths equipment for the blind.
As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.
If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.
Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.
The best way to hear Mosen At Large is when it airs live and in full on Mushroom FM on Saturdays at 2 PM Eastern, that’s 7 PM in the UK. It will then be available in abridged form on the Mosen At Large podcast, available anywhere you get podcasts.
Thank you so much for listening and contributing to the show, and see you soon for Mosen At Large.
