Kia ora Mosen At Largers. Feeling rested, relaxed and reinvigorated, it will be my pleasure to be back with you this weekend as Mosen At Large returns. As always, I look forward to reading your emails and hearing your thoughts.
Last year, we reflected on the decade just ending and looked at some of the technology highlights. As we begin this new decade, I’m interested in your wish list, and if you’re brave enough, even your predictions. What technology challenges do you think we should, and will, overcome in the next 10 years? When you think about your life as it is today, what major new tech breakthrough, even if it sounds far-fetched right now, would make a big difference in your life.
Since it’s been over a month since we were last together, I have plenty of news and many things to share, one of which involves buying a new product spurred on by a poor technical support experience. I’ll bet many Mosen At Largers have stories to tell about mainstream tech support lines, whether they be for your Internet company, a computer company or something else, that couldn’t seem to cope with the fact that you are blind. Have you ever tried to explain your blindness only for the rep to press on regardless with visual references, or even disbelieve you entirely? I’ll share my tech support horror story with you, and in return, you’re welcome to share yours.
Plus, did you see what Microsoft came out with just before Christmas? Seeing AI, that remarkable swiss army knife of accessibility on iOS, released an update with a new channel that takes advantage of the lidar feature built into some new Apple devices. I’ll speak with the inventor of Seeing AI, Saqib Shaikh, about how Seeing AI came to be and what else might be in store for devices equipped with Lidar. Then, I’ll take you on a walk around Mosen Towers to demonstrate Seeing AI’s World Channel and how the lidar feature works. If at all possible, you’ll want to listen to this part of the show with headphones because the stereo imaging is important for this demonstration.
As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.
If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.
Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.
