Kia ora koutou everyone from an unseasonably warm Wellington given that it’s the middle of winter. I hope very much you will not only join me for Mosen At Large, but that you’ll get in touch and help to shape the show. It’s hearing from our global listening audience that has made this show so special, so thank you, and do keep it up.
Here in New Zealand, we are incredibly fortunate to be free of community transmission of COVID-19. But it is still having a huge impact around the world. It’s been a while since we checked in with our Mosen At Large family on how you’re doing as a result of the pandemic, so do feel free to give us an update on how life is for you. Is it getting any easier to get groceries delivered in a timely manner? What other challenges are you experiencing? Over in Australia, parts of the country have had to go into strict lockdown and I’m keen to hear how you’re coping. Wherever you are, do feel free to give us an update.
This week, I have been hit by a massive dose of tech bad karma, dude. But out of the lemons has come some lemonade as my daughter, son-in-law and I constructed a brand new super duper wonder PC. For the geekily inclined, I’ll give you the scoop on the next episode, assuming the new machine is behaving. If it isn’t, well then, I guess there’ll be no show!
Speaking of bad tech karma, Apple this week chose to release a watchOS beta that rendered VoiceOver completely unusable, warning VoiceOver users in the release notes not to upgrade. There’ve been some views expressed on whether that’s OK or not. I’d like to know what you think, and I’ll give you my thoughts.
If you listened to episode 53 of the podcast or caught the full show on Mushroom FM, you’ll know we had a really interesting discussion about whether you would choose to keep your PC or your smartphone if you could only choose one. Spoiler alert, the computer advocates have struck back big time during the week and there’ll be more lively discussion on this topic coming up. If you’d like to chime in, be my guest.
And this week, we have a caller who’ll be extolling the virtues of his favourite GPS app. Why not tell me the apps that make a difference to your ability to travel? What are you using, and what are the features that are most important to you? How much of a difference have these apps actually made in your life? Do you find it easier to travel now than you did before they arrived? Do you have a preference between Google Maps and Apple Maps? Let’s share our knowledge and opinions.
Remember, the podcast version of Mosen At Large is abridged. To hear the full version, tune into when I record it live, on Mushroom FM at 2 PM US Eastern time, 7 PM UK on Saturday, that’s Sunday at 6 AM in New Zealand.
