Sir James Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool on 18 June 1942, so this week on The Mosen Explosion, all the music we play will have a Paul McCartney connection. We’ll hear music from him as a solo artist, songs he’s written that were recorded by others, songs he has produced, songs he did with Wings, and of course, plenty of Beatles.
Sir Paul is still very much an active musical presence in our lives, so I think sometimes we don’t stop to reflect on what a legend he is in so many facets of popular music. He’s a gifted musician, able to play most instruments. He’s one of the best bass players in pop music, a talent we forget as it tends to be obscured by his many other abilities. He’s one of the greatest lyricists of all times. He has an uncanny ability to produce a seemingly infinite number of catchy melodies. He has been successful in many musical styles. In short, he is one of the truly historic figures in music.
If you have any songs with a Paul McCartney connection you’d like to hear, please feel free to tweet with the #MushroomFm hashtag, email me, or call the listener line on 404-458-0645.
Other things are going on too. New Zealand is in the America’s Cup final, and we’ve already won two races against Team USA. Six more wins and we’ll bring the cup home, but there is a long, long way to go. There are two races scheduled for tomorrow, so you can be sure there’ll be plenty of excitement and talk about this, the oldest prize in sport.
Bonnie will be here with her bulletin, but we’re skipping the history segment this week so we can devote more time to Sir Paul.
I’d be delighted if you’d join me at 2 PM Eastern, 7 PM in the UK, that’s bright and early at 6 AM in New Zealand. It’s another Mosen Explosion, only on the home of the fun guys, Mushroom FM.
