Hello! Here I am again with another Folkish feast for you on Come by the Hills, Mushroom FM's Folk and Celtic music show! This week, I've got songs about trains, songs about winter, songs about snow and songs about rain, and of course a few holiday tunes to spice things up with the musical equivalent of ginger, cloves and nutmeg. I hope you can join me!
After you've enjoyed Come By The Hills with Sara Hillis, tomorrow afternoon from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM, don't touch that dial, device, PC, Mac, smart speaker or tablet and join me for The Early Years, where and when you'll hear the best music from the first half of the Rock and Roll era with nods to other decades and genres.
You know what John Lennon said, "life is what happens while you're busy making other plans".

From this Saturday at 12am Eastern, that’s 6pm Saturday in NZ, 4pm in Sydney and 5am in the UK, and repeated every four hours throughout the day, it’s the described movies, The Family Stone from 2005, Last Christmas from 2019, and On Angel Wings from 2014.
The Family Stone is a 2005 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Thomas Bezucha.
The "Juke In The Back" focuses on the " soul that came before rock n' roll," the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.
The "Juke In The Back" is proud to feature The Channels, one of New York City's finest and most influential vocal groups of the mid-1950s.
At only 15 years, Earl Lewis fronted the group who recorded one of Doo Wop's most classic tunes, the self-penned, "The Closer You Are" for Bobby Robinson's Whirlin' Disc label out of Harlem. Earl Lewis joins Matt The Cat to tell his story in his own words.
This week on Deep Dive we feature the talents of Australian singer, songwriter and instrumentalist John Williamson. We meet an old man emu, hear the sad story of Bill the Cat, enjoy a chandelier of stars, and see some Cootamundra wattle.
Tune in at 4 PM Eastern Monday, which is 8 AM Tuesday in Eastern Australia. Or at 6 AM Eastern Wednesday, which is 10 PM in eastern Australia. Simply ask your smart speaker of choice to play Mushroom FM and you will be there momentarily.
Well, things are getting a little bit festive around Mushroom FM, and Come by the Hills is no exception! Not only will we be honouring Saint Andrew's Day this week which takes place on November 30, but we will be kicking off the festive fun for the holiday season as well! Now that our holiday countdown has been well and truly launched with votes coming in already, I'll be telling you all about it and playing some seasonal folky favourites to get us all in the voting mood, including some of my own prospective number 1 choices.
Hi everyone and merry Christmas!
Boy, have I got an incredible combination for you! Exercising your hard-won right to vote, holiday music and partying! Yes, our countdown is back for yet another year, due to popular demand. It's tradition, you know.
Mushroom FM runs a really fun tradition every year where we ask listeners to vote for their top 10 holiday songs, and we play the top 100 as tabulated by a fancy algorithm.

Harry Vann began playing piano in Beulah's Church in Charleston, WV around the age of 10, but thanks to hearing Jay McShann records on the radio, he was bitten by the blues bug while in his teens. After settling in Columbus, Ohio in the late-1940s, Vann was making a name for himself playing in the local clubs. He changed his name to Van Walls, taking Walls as his surname from his step-father.
