The Juke In The Back” focuses on the “soul that came before rock n’ roll,” the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.
It’s with both profound sadness and gratitude that I write this post to pay tribute to Peter Scanlon having just learned of his death.
Those who’ve been listening to Mushroom FM for some years will remember Peter’s distinctive Australian accent and his love of the early days of rock and roll, both of which were very much on display in the show he hosted for us, The Big Beat Radio Show. His grasp of that era was almost encyclopaedic in its depth.
You've waited and waited, putting up with encores and voice-tracked shows and all, and finally, we're ready for the first live show of the new year on Come by the Hills! We'll have all the usual features, great music, and yes, the unpredictability that comes with doing the show live! This is all still new to me, but I enjoy the challenge and I enjoy hanging out with you on a Sunday night as we listen to some amazing Celtic tunes!
Join me for The Early Years where you'll enjoy the best variety of music from Rock and Roll's Golden Age (its first quarter century) with an occasional nod to other decades including music from before the rock era.
The top 100 countdown of 1958 that I started two weeks ago continues this week. I got to #39 last week and will pick it up at #38 and continue to #11. You'll hear the top 10 songs of 1958 two weeks from now.

It’s back! Join me starting this Monday as every week day I serve up another year of tasty musical morsels and friendly conversation. If music from the 50s through the 80s is your thing, and you like a bit of banter thrown in for good measure, you’ll be pleased to know that that’s what we’re serving up on the Smorgasbord.
I may not have a brand new pair of roller-skates, or even a brand new key. But this year, the Smorgasbord is on at a brand new time as a brand new show from a brand old friend fills the old Smorgasbord slot.
